Did you know it was World Environmental Day on the 5th June and World Oceans Day on the 8th June? Two significant days to really make you think about what we are doing on a global scale and the impact of our continued consumption on marine life and our precious planet! This must stop! If you need a wake-up call just watch the below video:
It’s so rewarding to start seeing results of our own Recycling and Waste Management System in the Mentawai, and how enthusiastic our students are about creating a sustainable environment for them and their families. Education really is the key to filter through from the younger generation to the older members of the community. This washed and sorted plastic will now be sent off to Padang to the Recycling Centre and the students will get rewarded for their efforts based on the weight of the plastic.
We also celebrated the end of the school term by congratulating our students who successfully completed another course in English learning. These students continue to grow in confidence with their new English skills and are looking forward to the next course starting in July.
To enable us to develop these programs and build our new Education and Conservation Centre we continue to need funding! If you are in a position personally OR professionally to make a donation before EOFY, then please visit Australia’s Biggest Giving Circle and help us reach our target!! We need to at least raise AUD$747 before 30th June, which will also give us 747 votes and position us in the Top 10 based on current rankings!!
Come on, what are you waiting for? I’m sick of having to consume a never ending supply of plastic and end up like my dead mate!! Jump onboard and help these dudes out, as I can’t do much from down here!!
