A constant stream of visitors, activity and community support

For the past two months, Raw Immersion guests have been experiencing life in the village of Mapadegat and getting involved with the programmes run through the Education and Environmental Centre.

It never ceases to amaze me the enthusiasm and dedication our Project Coordinators put into running the Education and Environmental Centre. Tom and Karen are an amazing team and we wouldn’t be where we are today without their ongoing support and commitment. For the past two months we have had a continuous flow of Raw Immersion guests experiencing life in the village of Mapadegat and getting involved with the programmes that we run. It’s great to see these guests helping out the community, sharing their skills and enjoying the unique experience.

Helping renovate Ibu Mama’s house

Two of these guests were Adam and Ben who lent a hand in helping to renovate Ibu Mama’s house next door to the Centre. Ibu Mama provides meals for our guests and has the best donuts in the world!!

First Aid Courses

We were also fortunate enough to have Gavin and Sally, a paramedic and nurse from the Gold Coast stay at the Centre and helped us run first aid courses for our adult students, staff at the local clinic and the surf boys.

New Volunteer

Josie joins as a new volunteer

Due to the scope of the Environmental Program, we have also welcomed Josie as a new volunteer teaching the younger students English so Tom and Karen have more time to focus on our recycling and waste management program.

So as you can see the past couple of months have been a constant stream of visitors and activity and I’m sure Tom and Karen are now looking forward to the Christmas break. Of course none of these programs would be possible without the support we receive from all of you. If you know of anyone else that would be interested in supporting our programs please share and continue spreading the news of what we are doing and our vision for a plastic free Mentawai!
