For surfers, remote tropical islands represent paradise. But for the local communities who call these places home, life comes with severe isolation, limited healthcare, scarce clean water and daily nutrition challenges.

While Perfect Wave connects travellers to the world’s best waves, A Perfect Foundation works to support stronger, healthier futures for the communities connected to those destinations. Partnering with SurfAid helps us scale that impact through community-led programs that train, equip and empower local people.

SurfAid’s core mission is to improve the health, well-being and resilience of remote communities connected to us through surfing.
Their model is built around local participation. Lasting change happens when communities are actively involved in the solutions, from health education and nutrition training to clean water, sanitation and hygiene programs.

Year after year, the Perfect Wave crew fields corporate teams to compete and fundraise in the annual SurfAid Cup. This tag-team surf event has a major purpose: raising vital funds for SurfAid’s Mother and Child Health programs in remote villages.

Long-Term Community Programs
From the Mentawai Islands to Sumba, and now Rote
A Perfect Foundation actively supports SurfAid’s structural programs across remote Indonesian communities. These programs focus on lasting improvements in health, clean water, nutrition, sanitation, hygiene and resilience.

The Current Focus: Resilient Rote
Right now, our primary focus is backing SurfAid’s fully integrated water, hygiene and nutrition program on Rote Island.

Mama Mar’s Seeds of Resilience
From rocky backyard to community nourishment
Mama Mar doubted her rocky backyard could grow anything. With a family to feed, meals were about filling stomachs, not nourishing bodies.
With SurfAid’s support, she planted her first seeds. Now her yard overflows with spinach, tomatoes, papayas, melons and more.
Mama Mar did not stop at her own fence. She mentored 18 households and continues to share her seeds and knowledge with her community.
